The Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare, Amina Priscille Longoh, presided over the commemorative ceremony of the 39th edition of International Women’s Rights Day on March 8, 2024 at Place de la Nation.
Under the theme “Women’s Participation in Post-Transition Electoral Processes,” this 39th edition saw the participation of women from all layers of Chadian society, as well as foreign communities living in Chad, in the traditional parade. For over 3 hours, these women, adorned in their finest attire, paraded down the streets to the applause and encouragement of the Minister for Women and numerous guests in the stands.
During the celebration, women made some recommendations to the government, urging them to ensure a 30% quota for future elections and for political parties to enhance the capacities of women.
According to the Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare, Amina Priscille Longoh, the commemorative themes of Senafet, which are “Investing in Women: Accelerating the Pace,” and International Women’s Day, which is “Women’s Participation in Post-Transition Electoral Processes,” are aimed at speeding up progress.
She emphasized that in today’s Chad, the 30% quota has been achieved and women must prove to the transitional president that he did not make a mistake by giving their best, making a difference in their work not just to be noticed, but to be distinguished in order to gain even more trust. She stressed that “the fight for women’s rights is an important and noble fight,” and urged women to work hard and “work twice as hard as men to gain the trust of men.”
According to Amina Priscille Longoh, despite our differences and diversity, Chadian men and women share a common denominator, which is Chad.
