Cape Verde is represented by six athletes, all children and descendants of Cape Verdean residents in the USA, at the African Wrestling Championship taking place in Egypt, where Matteo Monteiro retained the African title in under-20 wrestling.

According to the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee, in addition to Matteo Monteiro, who won the gold medal in the -86 kg category in Alexandria (Egypt), the country is being represented in this African Championship by athletes Furtado Tresse, Arianna Xavier, Angelina Rodrigues Miranda, Anthony Wesley Amado, Alexander Buckman, and João Paulo Vicente Júnior.

Among this group of athletes, Arianna Olympia Xavier stands out, becoming the first female medalist to represent Cape Verde in the African Wrestling Championship in 2023, winning the silver medal in the 75.7 kg senior division.

Anthony Wesley Amado, who competed in the 69.8 kg category, placed fifth in the African Championship.

The 2024 African Wrestling Championship precedes the qualifying tournament for Paris 2024, which is taking place at the same location.
