Cape Verde will be represented at the 16th African Nations Championship, which will take place from April 30 to May 5 in Luanda, Angola, by nine swimmers, five male and four female.
According to the president of the Cape Verdean Swimming Federation, Avelino Bonifácio, Cape Verde will bring the largest and “most representative delegation ever” consisting of five senior athletes and four juniors, with the particularity that two of these athletes are still in the infant category.
The country is aiming for a fusion between the diaspora community and residents, so the Cape Verdean delegation will be composed of four athletes who evolve in the United States of America, three in Cape Verde, one in France and one in Mauritius.
“With these athletes, we will be able to participate in almost all events in competition, including relays, both male and female, as well as mixed,” assured the president of the national federation of the sport.
The Cape Verdean delegation for the Luanda mission also includes the technical director of the federation, José Maria de la Branca, and the secretary-general Enrique Alhinho.
According to the federation’s program, the Cape Verdean delegation will gather in Luanda on the 28th of the current month for the final stage of the training camp.
