The Cape Verdean football team is already in Saudi Arabia to play in the FIFA Series Tournament, with the last minute addition of forward Carlos Fortes from Al Dhafra Football Club (United Arab Emirates).
According to information provided by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF), Carlos Fortes was called up to replace the injured Tiago Correia “Bebé”, a forward from Rayo Vallecano (Spain).
The Cape Verdean delegation arrived in the early hours of Wednesday aboard the “Morabeza,” a TACV charter flight, on a trip that lasted about eight hours and proceeded smoothly.
At the moment, as communicated by the FCF, the team is already installed in a hotel in the city of Jeddah.
In this FIFA Series, Cape Verde will play against Guyana on Thursday, March 21, and against Equatorial Guinea on March 25.
FIFA Series is a global strategy of FIFA for the 2023-2027 horizon, with the pilot phase kicking off during international games in March 2024.
With this initiative, FIFA aims to support federations in organizing friendly matches involving national teams from different confederations in a single country.
