The results released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) today pointed out that in the 4th quarter of 2023, Cabo Verde recorded an increase in growth in various transport sectors compared to the same quarter the previous year.
According to a note from the INE, regarding air transport, the numbers revealed a 9.7% increase in aircraft movements, totaling 7,503 in the 4th quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter the previous year. The number of passengers transported increased by 12.7%, reaching the mark of 696,318 movements, and the tons of cargo handled increased by 4.7%. The results released by the INE also showed a substantial increase of 12.4% in mail movements.
In relation to national ports, the results released by the INE point to a positive performance. The number of ship movements recorded an increase of 1.8%, totaling 2,110 movements. In national ports, the goods handled showed a growth of 7.3%, reaching 690,028 tons, and the number of passengers handled in ports increased by 3.4%.
In land transportation, buses saw an increase of 5.9% in the number of passengers transported, totaling 6,597,689 passengers. Despite the reduction in bus route lengths, the Passenger per Kilometer Index increased by 5.4%, reflecting a greater efficiency in resource utilization.
