Cape Verde has extradited four Spanish citizens to Spain who were indicted for drug trafficking and criminal association.
According to a statement released on their official page, the Public Ministry announced that the Court of Appeal of Sotavento decided on February 7, 2024, to extradite the four Spaniards to the requesting State.
These individuals are suspected of being involved in crimes including endangering public health, belonging to a criminal organization, trafficking of high-risk drugs, and criminal association.
According to the same source, the transfer process to the requesting State was completed last Thursday, March 14, at the Nelson Mandela International Airport in the city of Praia.
Public Radio reported in December 2023 that the four Spaniards had been detained in Praia for international drug trafficking after being caught at sea with five tons of cocaine.
According to the same sources, the Spaniards were near the port of Praia, where they fled by boat after being pursued at sea by authorities who intercepted them with the drugs.
Meanwhile, French authorities, in a statement, valued the drugs at 330 million euros.
At the time, the four detainees were heard in court in Praia and agreed to be extradited to Spain, which is expected to be processed in the coming weeks, judicial sources added today.
