Following the simultaneous break of four undersea cables, more than a dozen African countries have been cut off from internet connectivity. The only cable that escaped this incident is the “Maroc Telecom West Africa” cable. Despite 99% of global digital data passing through these cables, Africa remains the least connected continent. The geographical position of Morocco, situated between the Mediterranean, abundantly crossed by cables, and the North Atlantic, just a few kilometers from the transatlantic cable network between Europe and the United States, makes it an ideal candidate to become a continental hub, a strategic point where multiple cables meet. To achieve this goal, Morocco could focus on the telecom sector in its new Atlantic strategy.
