A fire outbreak yesterday ravaged several shops at Carrefour Nsam in Yaoundé’s III Subdivision, leaving shop owners in despair. The flames engulfed multiple shops, causing extensive damage and significant losses for local businesses.

The fire started along the road leading to the Damase district, and eyewitnesses believe it originated from the burning of household waste. Witnesses reported that the fire broke out around 3 p.m. in a bar and quickly spread to neighboring shops, fueled by flammable materials.

“It all began with a moment of carelessness. The fire rapidly spread to numerous shops. It’s hard to estimate the number of businesses lost in the fire. I had three shops. Everything was destroyed by the flames. It’s a huge loss for me. I don’t know where to start,” one victim lamented.

Efforts to contain the fire were hindered by its rapid spread, prompting firefighters to rush to the scene to combat the blaze. Despite their swift response, the fire resulted in the complete destruction of goods stored in the affected shops.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties among the people present during the fire. However, the damage caused was extensive, leaving behind a trail of devastation and hopelessness for the affected shop owners.

Authorities from the Efoulan Gendarmerie Brigade apprehended the woman suspected of starting the fire while burning household waste.

The incident has left the community in shock and disbelief as they come to terms with the aftermath of the destructive fire. Local authorities are assessing the situation to provide support and assistance to the affected shop owners.

As the community begins the process of rebuilding and recovering from the fire, there is hope that they will receive the necessary aid to restore their businesses and livelihoods. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and proper waste disposal practices to prevent such disasters in the future.
