Cameroon, the runner-up of the last African Women’s Handball Nations Cup held in Senegal, has been excluded from the women’s Olympic qualification tournament due to difficulties related to obtaining the necessary visas to travel to Hungary. This decision was made by the International Handball Federation (IHF), which stated that Cameroon had not complied with the required documentation for visas, in accordance with the IHF Competition Regulations.
As a result, Cameroon’s spot has been awarded to Great Britain, who will now participate in the women’s Olympic qualification tournament without changing the match schedule. This decision means that Angola will be the only representative of Africa in women’s handball at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
What the IHF Regulations Say
The IHF Competition Regulations state that participating teams must adhere to the necessary administrative procedures to obtain the required visas for international competitions. Teams must provide the necessary documentation within the specified deadlines and ensure that all team members have the appropriate visas to travel to the host country of the tournament.
In case of non-compliance with these rules, the IHF reserves the right to exclude a team from the Olympic qualification tournament or any other international competition. This measure aims to ensure that all participating teams adhere to the rules and procedures in place to ensure the smooth running of competitions and the fair participation of all countries.
This exclusion of Cameroon is a disappointment for fans and players who were eager to represent their country in this international competition.
Despite this decision, Angola will proudly fly the flag for Africa at the 2024 Paris Olympics and strive to shine on the international stage.
