They came from the 3 northern regions of Cameroon for this interregional meeting to strengthen the capacity of members of the Surveillance and Denunciation Committee and to introduce them to the use of the VBG monitoring platform and early warning mechanism for conflicts launched yesterday morning in Maroua.

This meeting was attended by defense and security forces. Organized by Networks for Peace and Social Cohesion, it brings together civil society organizations, security forces, and community leaders from the regions of Adamaoua, East, North, and Far North.

“We chose Maroua to host these workshops because the Far North is an epicenter of gender-based violence due to the multiple crises and conflicts that expose vulnerable individuals. The aim of this project is to resolve/transform inter and intra-community conflicts and violence and promote social cohesion,” said Joseph Désiré Zebazé, national coordinator of the Cameroonian Network of Human Rights Organizations.

It should be noted that the Far North region, which hosts this meeting, is the region that ranks highest in terms of gender-based violence since the beginning of the security crisis imposed by the Boko Haram sect.

Several women have been raped, beaten by Boko Haram jihadists, and sometimes even by men in uniform in this war situation. Many girls in Mayo Sava have been forcibly raped and now have unwanted pregnancies, leaving them abandoned and resorting to prostitution to feed their children.

“The authorities are making every effort to intensify the fight, but much remains to be done to achieve the expected objectives. This is why group and plenary discussions are planned to come up with recommendations to submit to decision-makers,” said Adidja Munka Djibrine, social affairs inspector representing the regional delegate for Social Affairs of the Far North.

Certainly, with exchanges and recommendations, the actors in the chain, although they will not have an easy task in insecure areas, will do their best to achieve the expected objectives.

A sad fate for the Integrated Health Center of NGUERING, the Health Facility has been closed for almost a month.
