Biya Maoudou and Aliou Saliou, aged 7, respectively, lost their lives in a drowning incident yesterday afternoon at Lake Bini in Dang, in the Ngaoundéré III district.

The two victims were students at the Malang Primary School and used to do odd jobs to earn some money by fetching water for traders during the periodic market in Dang, with a symbolic payment.

After completing their task yesterday, Biya Maoudou and Aliou Saliou decided to go fishing at Lake Bini, located near the market. Unfortunately, they took the risk of swimming in the deep waters of the lake, well known for its dangerous nature, and never resurfaced.

Alerted by their friend Ali, a swimmer jumped in the water to try to save them. Unfortunately, he could only retrieve their lifeless bodies an hour later.

Upon being informed of the situation, the city authorities went to the scene of the tragedy. The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death was drowning by asphyxiation. An investigation has been opened by the judicial police to determine the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

The bodies of the two children were taken to the morgue at the regional hospital in Ngaoundéré.
