After brandishing the strike call following the increase in fuel prices, the road transporters have just lifted the call with the promise of the government to readjust transport prices and take several measures in their favor.

A consultation meeting involving representatives of the Platform of Socio-Professional Organizations of Road Transport, the Land Transporters Group (GTTC), as well as the trade union organizations members of the Coalition of Road Transport Workers, was held yesterday at the headquarters of the CSPH in Yaoundé. The meeting followed the tense social climate in the road transport sector and is part of the continuation of the support measures decided by the authorities in favor of the road transport sector, following the increase in fuel prices at the pump that occurred at the beginning of February.

To address the problems raised by the social partners, the Government has undertaken to submit to the High Sanction of the Hierarchy certain measures, including: “The revaluation of mass road transport tariffs by 15%; Notification of the standard contract for the transport of fuel and derivative products; The signing of Order No. 0022/MINCOMMERCE of February 13, 2024, fixing the procedures for loading and unloading tanker trucks in oil depots.”

In addition to these initial measures, the government has promised to: “Proceed to revalue the city delivery post of petroleum products by 15% in relation to the weight of fuel in said post; To supervise the revaluation of the negotiated minimum prices for the transport of goods agreed between the carriers, freight forwarders and the CNCC by 15% depending on the nature of the freight; To urgently adjust the prices and rates of urban, peri-urban and interurban transport to take into account the impact of the revaluation of prices at the pump on the operating costs of companies in the transport sector; To urgently finalize the consultation on the sensitive issue of own-account transport. A meeting will be held for this purpose on Monday, February 19, 2024, with the Minister of Transport; To urgently resolve the problem of harassment related to the deployment of the Motorized Road Patrol. A meeting will be held for this purpose on February 15, 2024, with the Secretary of State for Defense, in charge of the National Gendarmerie”.

Furthermore, the authorities intend to “Examine the issue of VAT and import duties on spare parts and other inputs; decide on the authorization to travel with the certificate of deposit of the application for the registration card”.

It is these promises that have allowed the socio-professional organizations of road transport to lift their strike call.

The meeting convened by the Minister of Commerce was attended by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, the Minister of Transport, the Minister of Water and Energy, the General Director of the CSPH and the representatives of the Delegate General of National Security and the Secretary of State for Defense in charge of the National Gendarmerie.
