In a statement released on Tuesday, the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (Synafoc) expressed concern about the practice of identity fraud among players. The organization strongly condemned these actions while calling for a thorough investigation into how the lists of the players involved were compiled and made public.
Synafoc emphasizes that while identity fraud is unacceptable, it is concerned about how these accusations were disclosed. Indeed, the players in question are publicly accused without being given the opportunity to defend themselves immediately. Employing clubs do have a 48-hour period to provide justification for the identities presented in the license application files, but this does not guarantee a presumption of innocence for the accused players.
Synafoc stresses the importance of respecting the presumption of innocence that these players are entitled to until the facts of fraud are definitively established against them. It calls for a fair and transparent procedure to handle these cases of identity fraud, in order to protect the rights of the players involved.
Therefore, the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers has approached the General Secretariat of Fecafoot to request a 10-day postponement of the start of the play-offs, so that light can be shed on this international affair. It is willing to contribute to this process and demands that the investigations be conducted by independent individuals who are specialists in this field.
