Adolphe Minkoa She, Aaron Logmo Mbelek and the nine other former members whose term has been renewed, took oath before the Parliament gathered in Congress. The Constitutional Council members, an advisory and judicial body responsible for ensuring the constitutionality of laws and the regularity of elections, officially took office on April 2, 2024. The ceremony took place at the Congress Palace in Yaoundé in the late afternoon in front of deputies and senators, representatives of the people and local authorities, gathered in Congress.

In his speech, the President of the Congress and President of the National Assembly, Cvaye Yeguié Djibril, reminded the members of the Council of their role and the people’s expectations of them. The President of the Constitutional Council, Clément Atangana, along with the other eight former members, are starting their second six-year term within the institution created in 1996 and operational since 2018. In total, 10 out of 11 members of the Council, both former and new, took part in the ceremony.

Professors Adolphe Minkoa She and Aaron Logmo Mbelek are entering the college of constitutional judges for the first time. Nominated by presidential decree on January 18, the academics also took their oath for the first time today as members of the Constitutional Council. In the coming months, they will participate in the implementation of the missions and powers devolved to the Council. The institution judges the conformity of laws and acts to the Constitution. It also ensures the regularity of parliamentary and presidential elections and proclaims the results.
