Cameroonian singer Gasha has recently revealed shocking details about her collaboration with Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo, shedding light on alleged exploitation and false claims of ownership of royalties.
In a recent interview, Gasha expressed her disappointment in not being treated fairly as promised after working together on the song “Chill.” Despite investing $2000 in the project, bringing Kenzo to Cameroon, and filming a music video, Gasha stated that she has not received any financial compensation for her contributions.
Gasha boldly stated, “Kenzo, we both know what we agreed upon in our hearts. And if you continue to deny my claims, take action against my ‘lies.’” This statement was in response to Kenzo allegedly denying her allegations.
Despite the song “Chill” gaining over 5.1 million views on YouTube and more than 400 million streams on other platforms, Gasha revealed that she has not received any royalties from its success. She trusted Kenzo to handle the distribution of the song, only for him to claim all rights to it after uploading it on his channels without her consent.
Kenzo has not directly addressed Gasha’s accusations, but his management responded to bloggers’ inquiries by stating that they flew to Cameroon in 2015 at their own cost to shoot the “Chill” video. They emphasized their efforts in collaborating with Gasha and denied any wrongdoing.
In a 2023 interview with Darling Lyonga, Gasha reiterated her claims against Kenzo, alleging that he made over $400,000 from the song and removed her name as the main artist without her permission.
Gasha and other Cameroonian bloggers are urging Kenzo to respond to her allegations and provide evidence to refute them if he continues to deny them. This dispute highlights the challenges that artists face in safeguarding their creative rights and navigating collaborative projects in the music industry.
