The Ethics Committee of the Cameroonian Football Federation is set to hold a three-day session next month. The Commission, responsible for preserving values within Fecafoot, is set to hear from several individuals in relation to ongoing affairs. Indeed, numerous players and club presidents have been notified by the Ethics Committee of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) of proceedings being brought against them for “falsification of documents.” The football governing body accuses players of “age cheating and identity fraud for others,” as indicated in the notification sent to club presidents and players. While players are the primary suspects, the implicated club presidents are suspected of complicity.

Even though they still enjoy the presumption of innocence, some players and club presidents face heavy sanctions, including potential permanent exclusion from football.

In accordance with the requirements of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samuel Eto’o has continuously worked to combat age fraud since his arrival at Fecafoot. The federation now requires all clubs to present national identity cards for their players in youth tournaments.

“At the federation, it is acknowledged that this widespread scourge on the continent is particularly responsible for the leveling between African and Western teams on the global stage. Consequently, young players who have cheated on their ages often arrive exhausted in African national teams. To illustrate this, Franck Happi, the director of football development at Fecafoot, pointed out on a television program last year that the Nigerian Mikel John Obi and the Argentinian Lionel Messi made their mark on the world stage during the 2005 Junior World Cup. However, Messi is still playing while Obi had to end his career,” explained our SBBC colleagues.

In 2022, around 21 out of the 30 players called up for the Union of Central African Football Federations (Uniffac) tournament in the under-17 category were excluded from the competition.
