Jacques Fame Ndongo, the National Secretary for Communication of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC), has issued a call for vigilance regarding the circulation of a fake circular asking certain individuals to collect funds for organizing a congress for the ruling party.

The RDPC does not recognize the circular circulating on social media that requests certain individuals to collect funds for organizing a party congress. This is the message conveyed in a circular signed by Jacques Fame Ndongo, the national secretary for communication of the RDPC’s central committee. “A false circular letter regarding alleged fundraising operations for the organization and holding of an RDPC congress is currently circulating on social media and has been addressed to certain individuals. The Secretary General of the Central Committee wishes to inform RDPC members, friends, supporters, and the public that no fundraising activities are currently underway either at the General Secretariat of the RDPC Central Committee or elsewhere regarding a congress of the Party that only exists in the imagination of the author of the fake circular letter,” wrote Jacques Fame Ndongo in his statement.

“Therefore, the Secretary General of the RDPC Central Committee calls for discernment and vigilance from all in the face of these malicious practices aimed not only at tarnishing the Party’s image, but also at deceiving our comrades and other friends of the RDPC. Finally, the Secretary General of the Central Committee warns the authors of these correspondences, who must be prepared to answer for their actions before the courts,” he concluded.

This fake letter is being circulated at a time when the idea of an imminent organization of an RDPC congress is being discussed. Even though the party’s highest authorities have not yet made a statement on the matter, it is logical that a congress of Paul Biya’s party be organized to designate a candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
