Less than two years before the presidential election in Cameroon, several silent or politically inactive personalities in recent years are making a gradual appearance.

The political season seems to be open in Cameroon. With just 17 months until the presidential election and 11 months until the legislative and municipal elections, political vacationers are emerging from their slumber. Like candidates preparing for an official exam, they seem surprised by the imminent end of the current mandates. They probably think it is time to intensify their revisions and appearances. In the race against time, each one finds a way to make themselves noticed.

The first group, feeling weak on their own, employ the tactic of forming coalitions. They call for opposition parties to come together under the banner of Transition or Change. However, since the last presidential election on October 7, 2018, where they did not go through all the procedures, the people have forgotten about them. They have taken no concrete actions in favor of the people.

These seasonal leaders have instead worked hard to improve their personal positions during political vacations. Producing publications, enhancing their rhetorical techniques, revising their societal projects, and seeking frameworks that offer good visibility. It is still their time to take further steps forward with the new political season.

The second group, considering themselves more ingenious, launch words and make multiple appearances to provoke the ire of the opposing camp. Their strategy consists of hitting hard where it hurts the most to shift the balance. Despite being rejected multiple times from various sources, they claim to be clearing the way for their leader’s triumphant entry into the presidential palace. But behind the scenes, they aim to elevate themselves. Using various techniques, they extend a helping hand to everyone, even to the downtrodden of society.

The third group, sensing the approaching deadline, highlight the notion of Transition. They brandish it where the mandate is nearing its end in a functional Republic despite facing difficulties. They offer themselves as Transition presidents while others intensify their registration on the electoral lists. After years in captivity, they try to focus on age, the duration in power of the prince and his entourage to demonstrate the degree of institutional bias. They are not far from those who take advantage of the difficulties of the ruling apparatus in the face of inflation to call for general strikes. A traditional technique that was successfully experimented in the 1990s but now struggles to be effective.

The fourth group, in their silence, send servants to announce news in the form of messages whose codes only they understand. Their movements weave webs everywhere, both on national territory and abroad. Their representatives recreate controversial works, produce films to assess the leadership’s performance. The circle’s guardians display public force against potential deviations. A public announcement is noted due to its rarity and the context. Experience may not speak, but it is needed, they say. As the days pass, the dance intensifies around the chair. Each one revises their position. The examination will be highly selective.
