The Minister of Territorial Administration has informed the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) that he has not taken note of the definitive exclusion of Robert Kona, one of the founding members of the party. This decision throws the ball back to the center in this case where Paul Atanga Nji is already accused of being a shield for a government that does not want Cabral Libii’s candidacy in 2025.

The brewing war between the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation (PCRN) and the Minister of Territorial Administration heralds a new battle. Yesterday, at the end of the day, Paul Atanga Nji informed Cabral Libii’s party that he does not acknowledge the exclusion of Robert Kona, one of the founding members of the political formation. Atanga Nji mentions a violation of the PCRN’s statutes and lack of quality. This statement from the Minister of Territorial Administration follows a letter from Boubakari Massardine, the party’s secretary-general, informing him of the decision to exclude Robert Kona, one of the party’s founding fathers. Robert Kona is accused of “committing acts of rebellion likely to cause serious confusion among the public, thereby compromising the serenity within our political formation, which is more than ever ready to face the upcoming electoral deadlines.”

While Paul Atanga Nji’s response did not surprise many, it is also considered an abuse of power by some. Cabral Libii, the president of the PCRN, denounced harassment. He stated, “Through the correspondence that the Minister of Territorial Administration addressed to the party’s secretary-general, there is a confirmation of two confessions. The first was made by the former president, Mr. Kona Robert, following the ban on the Kribi congress. A ban that he fraudulently obtained. He said in a press conference that all measures would be taken to prevent me from being a candidate in the presidential election, so I had to be deprived of control of the PCRN, which has elected officials and is eligible to run in a presidential election. The second confession was on the airwaves of a radio station where he said that he was acting with the permission and guidance of the Minister of Territorial Administration.”

Reacting to Paul Atanga Nji’s statement, Marc Essomba, a lawyer and activist of the RDPC, believes that Paul Atanga Nji is within his rights. “Why did the PCRN’s secretary-general feel compelled to write to the Minister of Territorial Administration? The Minister has the internal competence to produce the relevance of this type of document. In his role, and for the respect of public freedoms, he is one of the guarantors of public order. And to issue an opinion of conformity, he works with the texts of political parties that are directed towards him,” he explained.
