After the tragedy that struck Nkambe on February 11, one person lost their life and over 80 individuals were injured. As a result, five of the most critically wounded victims were airlifted to Bamenda Regional Hospital for immediate medical care.
Dr. Denis Nsame, the director of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, reported that a total of five severe cases were received, including three females and two males. Many of the individuals suffered blast injuries, with one person losing both limbs and another experiencing a blast to the face. A CT scan has been performed, and a team of medical specialists, including a traumatologist and psychologist, have been mobilized to continue the treatment that was initiated in Nkambe.
During a visit to the hospital, North West governor, Adolf Lele Lafrique, personally reassured the hospitalized victims that the Ministry of Public Health is working swiftly to provide all necessary services to aid in their recovery process. Governor Lafrique emphasized, “All the medical personnel have been mobilized to give the necessary assistance for the recovery of the victims.”
Governor Lafrique also revealed that four individuals had been arrested in connection to the explosion. “Relative calm reigns in Nkambe despite the trauma the population now faces. As of today, 4 people have been remanded into custody,” declared the governor.
The arrest of these individuals represents a significant advancement in the ongoing investigation into the cause of the unfortunate incident, ensuring that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
