Landry Batek Yebel is, according to authorities, the author of the murder of journalist Louisette Ngo Yebel, who happens to be his mother.
After femicides, now comes the season of matricides. Batek Yebel cold-bloodedly killed his mother. The Enam graduate, who is now in custody after confessing to his crime, recounted the sequence of events of this macabre crime. The tragedy took place at his son’s home in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, specifically in the Damas neighborhood.
The young man explained to the media that he doesn’t know what came over him. “That’s not me,” he said. However, the reconstruction of events tells a different story. According to Batek Yebel Landry’s initial statements collected during the gendarme’s investigation, he would have murdered his mother following a dispute. The mother noticed that furniture that had been purchased for her had disappeared. This led to an argument.
The main suspect, a recent administration secretary graduate from Enam, admitted to suffocating his mother with a pillow before dismembering her body in the shower at home. He then placed the body parts in two suitcases. The son then threw the suitcases into a river in Etoa-meki.
After murdering his mother, he called a friend who helped him abandon the victim’s vehicle in Soa, on the outskirts of Yaoundé, near the local gendarme brigade. According to information gathered, the murderer had committed similar crimes before. The young man also confessed to killing his grandmother less than six months ago.
Ngo Yebel, whose lifeless and atrociously mutilated body was found on Sunday, April 7th in Yaoundé. A trained journalist, she was the communication officer for the Central African Forests Commission. She had gone missing on Saturday, April 6th in the evening, but no alert was issued before the gruesome discovery on Sunday morning.
