At the end of the 18th matchday of the football championship, the playoff matches for the title are taking shape.
The population of Bamenda is in celebration. At the beginning of the season, Young Sports Academy of Bamenda, a club in group B, was facing poor results. The club’s administrators attributed this situation to the fact that the club’s home matches were being played far from their facilities in the Northwest. However, the club managed to regroup and climb up the standings.
This weekend, the good form of YOSA players was confirmed. Thanks to a brace from John Bosco and a goal from Patrick Handzonho, the yellow and green team defeated Fovu Club of Baham. The club finished in third place in the group with 24 points, securing their spot in the playoffs. The other teams from the group that qualified for the playoffs are Stade Renard de Melong (31 points), Coton Sport de Garoua (26 points), and Fauve Azur (23 points).
On the disappointing side, Bamboutos de Mbouda is the major disappointment in group A. The Mangwas Boys have always been known for showing up at big moments. Despite a good start to the season, they couldn’t maintain the momentum in the second half of the season, gradually slipping down the table.
The final blow was dealt last weekend by Astres de Douala. The defeat suffered by the Western club officially eliminated them from the playoff race. The four clubs qualifying from group A are Dynamo de Douala (30 points), Canon de Yaoundé (30 points), Colombe Sportive (26 points), and Gazelle FA (26 points).
The playoffs will take place from April 9th to April 30th.
