These vehicles were seized as part of the operation initiated by the administrative authority against urban disorder, which aims to prohibit the circulation of motorcycles in certain areas of the capital.

Wednesday, April 10 was a nightmare for some motorcycle drivers in the city of Yaoundé. At least a hundred motorcycle taxis were seized by elements of the Yaoundé Urban Community. Once confiscated, the vehicles were taken to the municipal pound, according to the CRTV, the public television. This record seizure since the beginning of the year is part of an operation led by the prefect of Mfoundi, Emmanuel Mariel Djikdent. “The operation we are conducting today is part of the fight against urban disorder. We had previously sensitized and re-sensitized. We did not want to see motorcycles in the urban area. Unfortunately, the phenomenon persists,” said the administrative authority to CRTV.

The prefect of Mfoundi made it clear that the operation launched on Wednesday will not stop. “It will continue over time.”

The legislation, in particular the decree signed in 2012 between the prefect of Mfoundi and the government delegate to the urban community of Yaoundé (CUY), sets the limits and conditions for motorcycle taxi activities and their conditions and modalities of operation within the territorial area of the city of Yaoundé. It is strictly forbidden for motorcycle taxis to circulate in certain areas, especially in the urban center. Despite this prohibition on the circulation of motorcycles in the urban center of Yaoundé, the owners of the two-wheeled vehicles continue to do as they please. Many of them continue to crisscross the urban center, despite sporadic checks by the urban community services and district councils. This activity not only causes traffic jams but also leads to several traffic accidents.
