The rolling stock is intended to optimize the collection of blood products in the 10 regions and reduce the mortality and morbidity rate related to blood transfusion deficiency.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, Cameroon needs 40 thousand bags of blood each year. The current system dedicated to meeting this demand is not able to meet this challenge. The Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, has recently provided rolling equipment to increase the performance capacity of the National Blood Transfusion Center. During a ceremony held in Yaoundé on March 11, 2024, Manaouda Malachie presented 23 brand new Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to the CNTS. These vehicles have a total value of $712,322, approximately 425,000,000 CFA francs. Three are dedicated to coordination and the other 20 are intended for supervising the activities of the National Blood Transfusion Center.
This equipment is acquired as part of the Blood Transfusion System Strengthening Project through cooperation between Cameroon and the Islamic Development Bank. The project also includes the construction of Regional Blood Transfusion Centers. The work will be carried out through cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank. Additional equipment purchased in the same vein to improve the working conditions of CNTS personnel is located at the Port of Douala.
By handing over these vehicles to the CNTS, the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, urged the recipients to make rational use of these public goods.
