The Divisional Commissioner Raymond Essogo, former head of the National Security Division of the Littoral region, will hand over command to his interim successor on March 22, 2024.

The General Delegate to National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, notified Divisional Commissioner Raymond Essogo of the handover scheduled for March 22 via a radio message. In this document, the head of the Cameroonian police mentioned that Divisional Commissioner Herve Marie Ondoa Ongono is the new chief of the regional division of National Security in the Littoral region. He will be acting as interim chief following the retirement of his predecessor. The handover ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the regional division of National Security in Douala.

Following this announcement, supporters of Maurice Kamto, president of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon, expressed their joy on social media. They remember the alleged mistreatment that Kamto and other members of his party suffered under the command of Divisional Commissioner Raymond Essogo. According to some, it was under the authority of this senior police officer that Maurice was arrested and “mistreated” on January 28, 2019, in Douala. It was also under his supervision that Kamto and his supporters were transported to Yaoundé. Some view Essogo’s retirement as a form of punishment, but it is actually a natural step in the police officer’s career.

This announcement has sparked discussions and reactions on social media, with many expressing relief and satisfaction at Essogo’s departure. The handover of command signifies the end of an era for Essogo and the beginning of a new chapter for the Littoral region’s National Security division.

As the interim chief, Divisional Commissioner Herve Marie Ondoa Ongono will now take on the responsibilities and challenges of leading the division. It remains to be seen how he will navigate the role and address any lingering issues from the past.

Overall, the handover of command signals a change in leadership within the National Security division in the Littoral region and paves the way for a fresh start under new leadership.
