The president of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon has served a summons to Jean Nkuete, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the RDPC, and two other officials of the same party.
Maurice Kamto has summoned three personalities who are members of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC). They are Jean Nkuete, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the RDPC, Luc Sindjoun who is in service at the Presidency of the Republic, and Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, the Minister of Public Works, influential members of the ruling party mentioned in an edition of the newspaper LA NOUVELLE.
The leader of the MRC has demanded that they respond “immediately” to three questions: whether on February 2, 2019, they were aware of the existence of the publication in the newspaper LANOUVELLE, whether they confirm that the secret meeting revealed to the public by the newspaper actually took place, and if so, its purpose and participants; and whether Professor Maurice Kamto visited the home of Professor Luc Sindjoun on that date as revealed to the public by the newspaper LA NOUVELLE in their company.
The summons follows the publication in the newspaper LA NOUVELLE on February 2, 2019. The front page headline of the publication was “Secret Meeting in Baham: One billion to boycott the February 2020 elections. The film of the secret meeting on November 7, 2019 at Professor Sindjoun’s residence in Baham; present were Jean Nkuete, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, Sylvestre Ngouichingue, Claude Feuteu, and others Albert Kouiche”.
While it is clear that Professor Maurice Kamto is seeking to prove his innocence, it raises questions as to why the politician did not take this action since 2019. He waited five years, the day before the upcoming elections, to serve this summons. It is worth noting that the MRC of Maurice Kamto did not participate in the 2020 legislative and municipal elections, let alone the regional elections on December 6 of the same year. The party boycotted these elections. In 2023, the party leader announced during a meeting in Bafoussam that the MRC will participate in the upcoming elections.
