The investigating judge, the magistrate officer Pierrot Narcisse Nzie, issued the referral order on February 29, 2024 in Yaoundé. The act marks the end of the investigation opened in the Martinez Zogo case.

The legal procedure initiated following the discovery on January 22, 2023 of the lifeless body of Arsène Salomon Mbani Zogo, head of the radio chain Amplitude Fm, is now heading towards the judgment phase. The investigating judge, the third to handle the case, Pierrot Narcisse Nzie, decides to conclude the second phase of the procedure after the preliminary investigation by the joint Police-Gendarmerie commission. Over a year after the murder of Martinez Zogo, the judge declares that there is sufficient evidence against 17 defendants who must be followed and judged for committing various acts. These are the acts that led to the death of the host of the popular show “Embouteillage.”

Upon reading the referral order, the facts concern both civilian and military personnel. The charges against them are based on the violation of provisions of the Penal Code and Article 40 of the Military Justice Code.

Indeed, Ebo’o Clément, Lenoir Dawa Bosco, Bakaïwe Sylvain, Godje Oumarou Vincent will be tried for “violation of orders, joint arrest, kidnapping, and joint torture.” “They have committed the crime of torture within the meaning of Article 277-3 of the Penal Code,” qualifies the investigating judge. Nzockmenping martial Théodore, who held the weapon at the entrance of the mine Ebogo to cover the first group during the victim’s torment, is prosecuted for “violation of orders, joint arrest and kidnapping, complicity in torture.”

According to the judge’s qualification, Eko Eko Maxime Léopold, the former head of the DGRE, Amougou Belinga Jean Pierre, the businessman, Engwele Ngwelle Etienne Jacques, Saïwang Yves and Heudji Guy Serge committed acts of complicity in torture. In the same order, Tongue Nana, Daouda and Lamfu Johnson Ngam, acted jointly in “murder, complicity in torture, violation of orders.” They delivered the fatal blow to the victim after the treatment operation carried out by the first group.

Justin Danwe was the director of operations at DGRE at the time. Having organized the different operations and gathered the means to do so, he will be judged for acts of “complicity in murder, joint arrest and kidnapping, complicity in torture and violation of orders.” Mayor Bibey Martin Savom is charged with “complicity in murder and complicity in torture.”

As for Bidzongo Mbede Albert and alias Arthur Essomba, they are accused of “complicity in torture, impersonation of title and impersonation of functions.” He admitted to “having impersonated the title of Captain Essomba Arthur of SEMIL.”

As for Bidjang Oba’a Bikoro Bruno François, he is charged with “conspiracy to torture and arrest and kidnapping.” He reportedly told one of his contacts in a conversation that when the time comes, they will show no mercy to Martinez Zogo.

Furthermore, the defendants referred to the Yaoundé military court still benefit from the presumption of innocence.
