The bronze medalist boxer at the 1984 Olympic Games bid farewell on March 6, 2024, at the age of 57.

Boxer Martin Ndongo Ebanga has passed away. The athlete died from illness at Caisse Hospital on the afternoon of March 6, 2024. According to family sources, he was taken to the hospital by his wife while he was suffering from a persistent hiccup. Doctors prescribed a scan to examine the underlying condition he was suffering from. At the time of his death, his loved ones were already seeing him regain his strength after facing other health problems.

Suffering from hydrocephalus, he underwent surgery a month ago. Due to the blows he received during his boxing career, he had water in his brain. He also had two silent strokes. Because of all these health issues, he lost certain faculties, including the ability to recognize people. This state of health hastened his retirement at the National Social Security Fund where he was employed. In his final days, according to the family, the Lion of Boxing was already recognizing other people, a sign that everything was already improving.

He will be remembered for winning the bronze medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in the 60kg category. At the African Games in Nairobi, Kenya in 1987, he once again won the bronze medal. He is one of those who, through sports, has brought fame to Cameroon internationally.
