Martin Mbarga Nguele announced that the production of National Identity Cards (CNI) in Cameroon will soon be accelerated so that they will be available for retrieval within 48 hours. The announcement was renewed during the New Year’s wishes ceremony at the General Delegate for National Security (DGSN) on January 24th in Yaoundé.
The ordeal of citizens applying for the National Identity Card (CNI) will soon be just a memory in 2024. This is what Martin Mbarga Nguele, the General Delegate for National Security (DGSN), implied on January 24th in Yaoundé. “CNIs will now be processed within 48 hours in 2024, from the time of submitting the documents and enrolling in the different identification centers in the country, respecting the time of submission and capture of the applicant’s parameters,” said Martin Mbarga Nguele, as quoted by Charles Elie Zang Zang.
This statement corroborates the one he had already made in Douala on September 29, 2023, during the inauguration ceremony of the New Biometric Passport Issuance and Production Center.
According to Martin Mbarga Nguele, this extensive program to modernize the services of the Cameroonian police will be accompanied by the ongoing construction of enrollment and production centers for Biometric CNIs, including 03 Autonomous Production Centers for CNIs in Yaoundé, Douala, and Garoua, and Modern Enrollment Centers with a minimum of 15 identification stations in each regional capital. This operation will increase the number of identification stations to 543, as opposed to the current 280, with an additional 700 Fixed Kits and 300 Mobile Kits to be installed in these identification stations.
During the New Year’s wishes ceremony for the head of the police, Martin Mbarga Nguele also gave hope to Cameroonians with problems of double identity. Regarding this issue, he indicated that the interministerial committee set up by the Head of State is working to find a quick, adequate, and legal solution to this thorny issue, which deprives several Cameroonians of their CNIs.
From the most authoritative source in the Cameroonian police, we also learn that several major projects are underway: the recruitment of 12,500 police officers between 2021-2025, ongoing training of police personnel, improvement of the technical capabilities of police medical centers, connecting police border posts to Interpol databases, and the commissioning of video surveillance centers in Bertoua, Maroua, Garoua, and Ngaoundere.
