The General Manager of CAMWATER, Dr. Blaise Moussa, is conducting a working visit to Maroua in the Far North region, accompanied by Governor Midjiyawa Bakari on Monday, April 8, 2024.
Dr. Blaise Moussa’s visit comes at a time when the city of Maroua and its surroundings are facing difficulties in water supply during the dry season, making access to water a real challenge.
Many families have been without water for several days, forcing women and children to spend the night searching for this precious liquid.
During their inspection of local infrastructure, they also examined the drinking water catchment area in Kongola, which will expand the water supply network by 1200 m3 of water per day, as well as wells 11 and 16 in the same city.
However, the technical terms are not well received by the residents who suffer from thirst.
“This visit is a ritual, the same promises are always made while we suffer from thirst. Sometimes, we are forced to consume dirty water. The visit of the CAMWATER GM is not useful to us, let him stay there. We only want water,” said one resident.
Tension is palpable among the population due to the lack of water, exacerbated by the common false promises.
Dr. Blaise Moussa, aware of the difficulties, urged his colleagues in the Far North region to redouble their efforts, especially in a region affected by the security crisis.
Maroua benefits from the second phase of the Drinking Water Supply Project (AEP) for 9 cities, aimed at durably addressing the tense situation of drinking water supply in the concerned localities.
The CAMWATER GM is accompanied by a delegation of officials from the Chinese company CGCO Group Co Ltd, responsible for implementing the AEP Project for 9 cities in Cameroon, phase 2, of which Maroua is a beneficiary.
Access to clean water in the city remains a major concern for the inhabitants of the Far North in general and the Diamaré department in particular.
To alleviate tensions, the company has made a commitment to local authorities and elected officials to get to work so that the first volumes of water are available as soon as possible.
The residents of Maroua are eagerly awaiting this, as the need for water is more than vital.
