A man was arrested around 7:20 p.m. in Muea, Buea after attacking another man with a machete, leaving him close to death. The attack was allegedly in response to the victim hurting the attacker’s dog.

Luckily, officers from the Third District Police Station in Muea intervened in time to save the man from the angry mob that had surrounded his home, where he was seeking refuge.

The attacker was taken into custody from his one-room house in Quarter 5, Muea, where he had been hiding for nearly an hour while the police and the local community searched for him.

The victim, a young man who has yet to be identified, suffered a serious machete wound to the head and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported that an argument between the two men escalated when the attacker accused the victim of harming his dog and then proceeded to attack him with the machete, causing the severe head injury.

Upon learning of the incident, an enraged crowd of hundreds of young people gathered at the perpetrator’s house with the intention of lynching him, but fortunately, the police arrived in time to prevent this.

After the arrest, the officers had to fire several gunshots to disperse the crowd, who were determined to not let the perpetrator live.

As the police took the perpetrator away, onlookers commented on how he would have been dead if not for the timely intervention of the police. The man was described as married with three children.

Once the perpetrator had been taken into custody, the angry crowd took their frustration out on the attacker’s dog, strangling it to death and then setting it on fire near the house.

This incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns in the community about the escalation of violence over a dispute involving a pet. The victim’s condition remains unknown, and urgent discussions are needed to address the underlying issues that led to this violent encounter.
