The first round of this child immunization operation will take place during the first weekend of March.
From March 1st to 3rd, 2024, the Ministry of Public Health is organizing the first round of national vaccination days against poliomyelitis. This mass vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 0 to 5 years old, will take place in all 10 regions of the country. Its goal is to strengthen collective immunity among the children involved.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, this campaign is a response aimed at stopping the circulation of the virus. It is being organized following the recording of 12 cases of wild poliovirus in environmental samples during the year 2023. For this occasion, the Ministry of Public Health in general and the Expanded Program on Immunization in particular are communicating to reach as many children as possible across the entire territory.
This communication is being conducted through bulk messages sent to subscribers of mobile phone operators. By encouraging parents to have their children vaccinated, the EPI reassures them about the benefits and quality of the vaccine. “The more a child is vaccinated, the better protected they are. The vaccine is safe, effective, and free,” the organization states. This message also aims to dispel controversies surrounding vaccines and reduce hesitancy.
