We will not see Nzié Jean Claude Ruphin again. His body was admitted last night to the morgue of the district hospital in Kribi. It was around 8 pm when the law enforcement teams and firefighters escorted the young man’s body to this hospital facility.
The person admitted to the morgue succumbed to three stab wounds inflicted by the motorcycle driver who was transporting him back from work. Witnesses recount that yesterday around 7:20 pm, Jean Claude stopped a motorcycle in the city center, heading towards the family home in the Dombè neighborhood, Koumba entrance. When he was about to board the motorcycle, the client who would later become the victim indicated that he would pay 200 out of 500 CFA francs. A few meters from the client’s house, the motorcycle driver, who believed he had already passed the destination, decided to stop. After a small argument with his client, the latter continued to insist on his decision. Jean Claude then handed him 500 francs, to which the motorcycle driver replied, “I don’t have the change.” A heated argument ensued between the driver and his client. A young lady, a neighbor who had just returned from the city and learned of the problem, agreed to give the driver 200 francs to end the quarrel. Despite this action, the two continued to argue until a fight broke out, according to another witness.
According to the testimonies, the motorcycle driver, whose facial features suggest he is from the northern regions, pulled out his knife from his motorcycle. “The young Eric, a neighbor of Jean Claude, who intervened in the fight, was stabbed in the hand. The motorcycle driver then lunged at Jean Claude and stabbed him three times in front of a helpless crowd before fleeing with the motorcycle, using Jean Claude as a shield, as if in an assassin movie,” we learned.
At the crime scene, a phone belonging to the assailant was found. An investigation has been opened with the police. This morning, the youth of the neighborhood barricaded the road to express their discontent.
At just 33 years old, Jean Claude Nzié worked in a subcontracting company at the Kribi autonomous port.
