The communication secretary of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC) argues that the appointment of Maurice Kamto to the government is proof that Paul Biya needed his current opponent.

Joseph Emmanuel Ateba lays out his argument on this in a Facebook post.

“It is the presence of Maurice KAMTO that gives prestige to a structure and not the other way around. Several times I have heard people say that Maurice KAMTO is the creation of Paul BIYA because he appointed him as University Dean and Deputy Minister. I would like to remind once and for all that by accepting the appointment positions from Paul BIYA, it was Maurice KAMTO who was honoring the latter and not the other way around. It was Paul BIYA who needed KAMTO.

The notoriety of Maurice KAMTO through his work is far superior to a small appointive position. That’s why Professor BAHEBECK said that it is the presidency of Cameroon that needs KAMTO because it would be an honor for our country to have one of its most illustrious sons at the helm. Therefore, Maurice KAMTO should not be confused with the anonymous individuals that Paul BIYA creates and who later become his creatures.

It is absurd to think that KAMTO could be the creation of BIYA when he was already everything he is before BIYA solicited him. It is only in a country where “the norm has been set aside to normalize the deviation” as Professor Hubert MONO NDZANA said that this type of reasoning can thrive.”
