For years, supporters of the Ambazonia separatist movement have blamed some of the worst attacks on civilians on supposed “Atanga Nji Boys” or former fighters linked to government DDR centres. The allegation remains unproven. But its constant repetition raises a question the movement itself may eventually have to answer: if so many of those carrying guns and committing atrocities are supposedly controlled by Yaoundé, who is actually controlling the armed struggle?
