Several suspects have been arrested and prosecuted in various localities across the country. The national gendarmerie has decided to reduce the phenomenon of drug trafficking across the national territory.
It was first in Mbalmayo, in the Nyong and So’o department, on February 16, 2024, that the Gendarmerie Company of the city received information that a boy in school uniform, with a red backpack, had entered the premises of the Bilingual High School of Mbalmayo-Oyack to sell drugs in tablet form to other students.
Following this lead, personnel from the local Gendarmerie Company went into the field and set up an ambush for the suspect.
“At the end of this ambush, around 3:30 pm, the 17-year-old young man was arrested. The suspected offender was dressed in the uniform of the aforementioned high school. A search of his backpack led to the seizure of 63 Tramadol tablets,” it was learned.
The gendarmerie revealed that “from their investigation, it appears that the suspect is a presumed ambulant drug dealer, operating only in schools. He also claimed to have in his possession a collection of uniforms from certain other establishments in the city of Mbalmayo, which he uses to evade the vigilance of security guards, fraudulently enter the said establishments, and discreetly operate among the students.”
The suspect was arrested and the investigation is ongoing according to the gendarmerie.
A few days before this, the Gendarmerie Brigade of Nkomo in Yaoundé had carried out a “blitz” operation in the Biteng district, specifically at the location known as “Mandela”, in the fourth district of Yaoundé.
During this operation, two young individuals, aged 25 and 26, identified as “major drug dealers”, were caught in the act of selling and using drugs.
The seizure report states: 53 cannabis joints and 11 Tramadol tablets, cocaine, and another drug commonly known as “rock”, as well as other psychotropic substances, were seized.
The two outlaws were brought before the High Court of Mfoundi to answer for their actions.
Since the beginning of the year, the gendarmerie has already apprehended several individuals and significant stocks of drugs as part of their sanitation operation.
