Samuel Eto’o wanted to resign from his position as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation on Monday, February 5, 2024.
This is the conclusion drawn from the final communique of the executive committee meeting of Fecafoot, which took place yesterday at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé.
“A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation was held on Monday, February 5 at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé. The agenda focused on the assessment of the participation of the men’s national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Mr. Eto’o Fils Samuel, presented his resignation to the members of the federal executive body, inviting them to do the same with a clear conscience. Following the discussions and subsequent deliberations, the members of the Executive Committee decided to continue their current mandates and unanimously rejected the resignation of the President of the Cameroon Football Federation, reaffirming their full confidence in him to continue the work of rebuilding and developing Cameroonian football from the grassroots to the top, as outlined in his acclaimed project during the elective General Assembly on December 11, 2021,” the final communique reads.
No other information from this meeting was released in the communique. It has also been reported that the issue of Rigobert Song’s future, whose contract has expired, was discussed.
Not only has the contract of the manager and coach of the Indomitable Lions expired, but he has also not achieved the goals set in the contract, namely to win the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. Each member of the executive committee has been asked to propose the name of a new coach, indicating that the former captain of the Indomitable Lions’ tenure may come to an end.
In the same vein, it has been reported that Sebastien Migné presented his resignation on the day of the Indomitable Lions’ elimination, citing the excessive interference of the president of Fecafoot in his work. This information has not been confirmed yet.
