A Cameroonian veterinary virologist, Dr. Christopher Ndi, has been awarded Cameroon’s most prestigious scientist award for his innovative research in various agricultural fields, particularly in the production of biogas using animal dung. The Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Madeleine Tchuinte, presented him with the honor at a ceremony in Yaounde.

Dr. Ndi, with over thirty years of dedication to scientific research in agriculture, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. He highlighted that the award symbolized his long-term commitment to advancing scientific knowledge. He stated, “The award I’ve received today, for me, is part of the Ministry’s appreciation of work that cannot be summarised in one day or a few sentences. This is work that has spanned over three decades. So today’s recognition is just a summary and appreciation of the work I’ve been doing.”

At the award presentation ceremony, where hundreds of scientists were gathered, Dr. Ndi presented his latest research project which focuses on converting animal dung into biogas as a renewable energy source. This innovative approach aims to reduce methane emissions from animal waste, combat climate change, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Dr. Ndi explained the significance of his research, emphasizing the dual benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and utilizing biogas as a clean cooking fuel. His work aims to enhance resilience among livestock farmers against climate change, addressing a critical agricultural issue in Cameroon. He also outlined additional research initiatives such as promoting harmony between crop and livestock farmers and enhancing soil fertility through integrated farming systems.

In addition to his groundbreaking work in biogas production, Dr. Ndi has collaborated internationally and authored numerous publications throughout his career. His pioneering contributions to agricultural science have earned him the title of the 2024 Imminent Researcher at the 11th edition of the Scientific Convocation in Cameroon.

Overall, Dr. Christopher Ndi’s dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and his innovative research in agriculture have been recognized with Cameroon’s highest scientist award, highlighting his significant contributions to the field.
