Djoujeu Ernest, a 28-year-old man striving to escape poverty and unemployment in Cameroon, tragically met his end while trying to reach Europe through the dangerous Mediterranean route.
Today, a young Cameroonian named Djoujeu lost his life in Tunisia at the hands of the Tunisian National Guard. Djoujeu was with other migrants as they returned from a failed attempt to reach Europe by sea when the guards opened fire, fatally shooting him.
Djoujeu had a deep love for boxing and looked up to Francis Ngannou as his mentor. He saw embarking on the desert journey as a way to follow in his hero’s footsteps.
Francis Ngannou, a world-famous professional boxer, took a bold step in his twenties to move to Paris, France, to pursue a career in boxing. Despite facing numerous challenges, he persevered with determination. Ngannou has expressed his desire to help children who dream of a career in sports like boxing and MMA by providing opportunities. He had mentioned that he brought boxing and MMA equipment to Cameroon to open a gym and had recently purchased a space to start the gym.
Unfortunately, Djoujeu’s hopes were shattered, cutting short his dreams. He is not the first Cameroonian to meet such a fate while seeking better opportunities elsewhere.
May his soul rest in peace.
