Nicholas Nkongho Manchang, the Divisional Officer (DO) of Bamenda II Subdivision, has reportedly been kidnapped along with five other individuals. The abduction occurred in Ntumbaw as the group was traveling to Nkambe for the installation of the newly appointed Senior Divisional Officer for Donga Mantung.

In 2020, Nicholas Nkongho Manchang assumed the position of Divisional Officer for Bamenda II in Mezam Division. This troubling incident highlights the frequent targeting and kidnapping of government officials by separatist fighters in the area. This will be the second divisional officer to be kidnapped during the Anglophone crisis.

The Ambazonia Separatists are suspected to be the main culprits behind the kidnapping. This group advocates for the independence of the Anglophone regions in Cameroon. The incident emphasizes the ongoing security challenges in the region as separatist activities continue to impact local civilians and disrupt economic activities. At this time, no Ambazonia separatist group has claimed responsibility for the abductions, although locals believe they may be responsible.

Currently, there is no official statement from the government regarding the kidnapping. The lack of information from officials only adds to the sense of uncertainty surrounding the situation, leaving the public eagerly awaiting updates on the safety and well-being of Nicholas Nkongho Manchang and the others involved.

MMI is closely monitoring the developments, while many Cameroonians have taken to social media to emphasize the importance of a swift and effective response to ensure the safety of government officials operating in difficult and conflict-affected regions.
