The coordinator of the Political Alliance for Change described the statement by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, as a “serious threat.”

The statement by the Minister of Territorial Administration regarding the illegal activities of opposition political alliances has sparked a series of reactions. Minister Paul Atanga Nji denounced, among other things, in his statement, the meeting at the main prison in Yaoundé between Jean Michel Nintcheu and the separatist leader, Sisiku Ayuk Tabe, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for “terrorism.” According to the minister, the Political Alliance for Change and the Alliance for Political Transition in Cameroon are not authorized to engage in political activities according to the law.

In response to this communication, Jean Michel Nintcheu, the national president of the Front for Change in Cameroon (FCC) and coordinator of the APC, rejected the idea of illegality. The former SDF activist reminded that “political coalitions have no legal existence other than that of their members. As such, the APC does not feel affected by the threats contained in this press release.”

The said statement is considered by the opposition as a “serious threat to the exercise of political rights in Cameroon.” Regarding the meeting with the separatist leader in prison, the deputy stated that he is committed to sincere and inclusive political dialogue between armed movements and the Republic. “He has never made any precondition or demand to the government on behalf of the Anglophone conflict prisoners.”

In another reaction to the same statement, the deputy Ngo Issi Mbock of the Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation questions, “Who is even leading Cameroon?” She criticizes the Minister of Territorial Administration, stating that she has “never seen ministers of the Republic as incompetent and arrogant as those of my country, especially the current MINAT.” She reminds the political parties and associations under the control of the Ministry that its “role as MINAT is not to dictate to political parties what they should do (…) your ultimatums are ridiculous and will not detract from the momentum that has already been set in motion (…) Mr. MINAT, stop polluting our political environment (…) Cameroon is not your household or neighborhood,” the opposition member declares.
