The information is contained in a note signed by director Edwin Fongod on March 7, 2024.
Edwin Fongod reiterates the prohibition of seizing vehicles due to the improper determination of their taxable values.
“I have noted that some Customs Officers working in active units continue to seize vehicles for the reason of improper determination of their taxable values, despite the Message N°1630/MINFI/DGD of October 25, 2022 from the Deputy General Supervisor of the Special Mission HALCOMI III, the subject of which is mentioned in the margin,” the note reads.
In order to put an end to these dysfunctions that cause unhealthy practices and tarnish the image of the Customs Administration, “I urge you to strictly enforce the said Note with all personnel under your authority. I place great importance on the scrupulous respect of the said Note and any difficulty encountered must be brought to my attention without delay,” he instructs.
Similar instructions had already been given in November 2022. At that time, it was the deputy supervisor of Operation Halcomi III (Stop to Illicit Trade), customs commander Eric Gervais Ndo who signed the note.
On the other hand, the customs administration developed the application “Cosmos” in 2021, which allows real-time verification of the customs status of vehicles imported into Cameroon by simply entering the chassis number in the Camcis system (Cameroon Customs Information System) database.
