Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade, Vice-President of the African Development Bank Group in charge of Regional Development, Integration, and Service Delivery, was received on April 8, 2024, in Yaoundé, along with the Minister of Economy, Planning and Spatial Planning, Alamine OUSMANE MEY.

A delegation from the African Development Bank was received by Alamine Ousmane Mey on April 8 of this year. On this occasion, several topics of common interest were at the center of the discussions between the Minister of Economy and the strong delegation of the African Development Bank.

During the meeting, the two parties reviewed the state of economic cooperation between Cameroon and the AfDB, and discussed some perspectives of this cooperation. Thus, the two personalities praised the progress made in the implementation of certain transport infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening regional and sub-regional integration dynamics. In particular, the construction of the Ketta-Djoum road between Cameroon and Congo, and bridges over the Cross River connecting Cameroon to Nigeria, over the Ntem connecting Cameroon to Equatorial Guinea, and over the Logone between Cameroon and Chad. They also appreciated the AfDB’s contribution to the financing of the Lom Pangar dam and the Nachtigal hydroelectric development project, not to mention the budgetary support provided by this financial institution in the implementation of structural reforms included in various Programs concluded with the IMF since 2017.

In total, the cooperation portfolio with the African Development Bank includes 26 operations, with estimated cumulative engagements of around 1,400 billion CFA francs. These operations address the priorities of the Cameroonian government and the AfDB’s “High five” priorities.

According to Minepat, the Vice President of the AfDB did not hesitate to present the ambition of her institution, which is to double the performance of the cooperation portfolio over the next 5 years, with new operations aligned with the orientations of the SND30, notably in the energy, transport, digital, agro-industry, urban development, and governance sectors, etc.

Alamine OUSMANE MEY took the opportunity of this meeting to advocate for greater consideration of the private sector in the cooperation portfolio with the AfDB.

It should be noted that the Vice President of the African Development Bank Group in charge of Regional Development, Integration, and Service Delivery is visiting Cameroon for a high-level dialogue with Cameroonian authorities and some development partners. She will visit some of the projects funded by her institution in Cameroon and interact with beneficiaries. Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade will also participate, as the Representative of the President of the AfDB Group, in the inauguration ceremony of the Central Africa Regional Office of the AfDB Group, scheduled for April 12, 2024, in Yaoundé, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute.
