Cimpor has recently completed the construction of its cement plant in Kribi, with a production capacity of one million tons per year.
Since June 2023, Cimpor has unofficially introduced its Powercem 42.5 cement on the Cameroonian market, already visible in many hardware stores. This soft entry was complemented in March 2024 by the launch of Powercem 32.5, currently limited to Kribi.
Thus, for the past week, the Portuguese company has been selling the Powercem brand 32.5 cement. It is produced in the company’s factory, which recently completed the construction of its cement plant in the industrial-port zone of Kribi. This production unit has an installed capacity of one million tons per year.
Cimpor thus becomes the youngest cement company in Cameroon, alongside Cimenteries du Cameroun, Dangote Cement Cameroon, Cimaf, Medcem, and Mira Company.
The arrival of Cimpor brings the number of cement plants in Cameroon to 6, with a total capacity of 8.4 million tons, exceeding the estimated national demand of 8 million tons. Cimencam (2.3 million tons), Dangote Cement Cameroon (1.5 million tons), Cimaf (1.5 million tons), Medcem Cameroon (600,000 tons), and Mira Company (1.5 million tons).
