International Francophonie Day, known as Journée internationale de la Francophonie in French, is observed in the 77 member states of the International Organisation of La Francophonie on March 20th. This day is a celebration of the French language and Francophone culture, with over 369 million French speakers worldwide.
Celebrating La Francophonie means recognizing the power of language and culture to bring people together, creating spaces of solidarity and mutual understanding, and envisioning a shared future.
On International Francophonie Day, France reaffirms its commitment to promoting the French language and showcasing the diverse Francophone cultures around the globe. This commitment includes upholding values such as openness, solidarity, and respect for diversity, all of which will be celebrated at the 19th Francophonie Summit. France will host this summit in 2024, in partnership with the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF).
Scheduled for October in France, the Francophonie Summit will focus on the theme “Create, innovate, undertake in French.” This theme highlights the many opportunities available within the Francophone community and encourages creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship as drivers for job creation.
