For the 32nd consecutive time, the MP of the RDPC from Mayo-Sava in the Far North is elected president of the lower house of Parliament for a one-year term.

The renewal of the offices is underway at the Cameroonian Parliament on Friday, March 22, 2024. In the National Assembly, no changes occur. Not surprisingly, Cavaye Yeguié Djibril wins the election to head the Chamber’s bureau. The only candidate presented by the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (RDPC), the MP who has been a member of Parliament since 1970, received 143 votes out of 156 cast votes against 13 spoiled ballots.

At 84 years old, the native of Mada in the Tokombéré district renews his commitment not to fail. “More than ever before, I will do everything in my power to deserve the very high trust. More than ever before, I will strive against all odds, without hesitation, to fulfill the missions that are mine,” declared the re-elected president of the National Assembly during his first speech after re-election.

The ongoing electoral operations led to the election of MP Hilarion Etong as the first vice-president of the National Assembly. The election, initially conducted by the interim bureau chaired by the eldest member Laurentine Koa Mfegue, continued with the president of the permanent bureau. The other members of the bureau, including five vice-presidents, four treasurers, and 12 secretaries, are also being elected during the ongoing plenary session. The session was preceded by a meeting between the Secretary-General of the RDPC Central Committee, Jean Nkuete, and the MPs of the parliamentary group of the party. Upon observation, the majority party in Parliament opted for continuity.
