The military court responsible for ruling on the law after the assassination of Salomon Arsène Mbani Zogo in January 2023 has postponed the hearing to April 15, 2024.
The trial related to the assassination of the head of radio channel Amplitude FM based in Yaoundé opened on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Military Court of Yaoundé. The afternoon session began with the calling and identification of the accused, followed by the presentation to them and their counsel of the facts for which they have been referred to the military court for judgment.
For this first hearing, all 17 accused were present. The hearing took place under remarkable security supervision. The lawyers of Maxime Léopold Eko Eko, former director of intelligence services, argued for the release of their client so that he could appear free. On the other hand, Maître Tchoungang, lawyer of the businessman Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga, requested that the trial be made public to the Cameroonian audience. At the end of this first day, the president of the Military Court, Colonel Magistrate Jacques Beaudoin Misse Njone, postponed the hearing to April 15, 2024.
It should be noted that 17 people have been indicted in the case of the assassination of media personality Martinez Zogo. The head of intelligence services, Léopold Maxime Eko Eko, the director of operations of the same services, Justin Danwe, their colleagues; businessman Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga, Mayor of Bibey Martin Savom, journalist Buruno Bidjang. They are charged, among other things, with “assassination”, “surveillance”, “torture”, “complicity in assassination”, “complicity in torture”, “conspiracy”, “arrest”, “sequestration”, or “violation of instructions”.
