Amid pressure from certain authorities lurking in the shadows and obstruction of searches, the judicial police investigators in charge of the Herve Bopda case, the name of the 45-year-old man arrested a few days ago on suspicion of rape, sequestration, armed threats, etc., are determined to shed light on this ongoing scandal.

Since the beginning of the investigation in the Herve Bopda case, the judicial police have attempted, unsuccessfully, to carry out searches at the suspect’s home. According to our sources, the police mobilized for this operation were faced with elements of the gendarmerie who prevented them from thoroughly searching Herve Bopda’s family home, as well as an apartment in the Bonapriso neighborhood. These locations had already been sealed off by the gendarmerie a few days earlier. Some believed that these seals had indeed been placed as a precautionary measure, but according to police sources, “it was a way for the gendarmerie to prevent us from doing our job.” This information confirms the idea that within the Douala gendarmerie, Herve Bopda had the support of a powerful brigade commander, presented as the protege of Galax Etoga, the Secretary of State for Defense in charge of the Gendarmerie, who even intimidates his senior officers in the second gendarmerie region of the Littoral.

New Complaints

According to the legal collective Universal Lawyers and Human Rights Defense, composed of lawyers Dominique Fousse, Guy Olivier Moteng, Massi, Yanou, Oyie, etc., 4 new victims have come forward in the case since the arrest of the businessman earlier in the week. They have been questioned despite the pressures exerted on the police. Further questioning is scheduled for next Monday. Among the new victims is a young man who was allegedly sodomized in 2019 by Herve Bopda. In addition to the initial complaint leading to his arrest, Herve Bopda is accused of “illegal possession of a weapon, fraud, conditional threats, and sexual harassment.” The charges of “group rape, attempted abduction under the threat of a weapon, various assaults, and threats” have been added in the new complaints filed at the Bonanjo judicial police.

Appeals to Victims and Witnesses

The legal collective Universal Lawyers and Human Rights Defense reiterates its appeal to victims and witnesses, urging them to come forward or present themselves to the Bonanjo judicial police. They believe that beyond the anonymous denunciations made on social media, it is urgent to bring the evidence of guilt to the attention of the law so that the accused can be punished accordingly.
