The bilingual high school of Bertoua in the East of Cameroon experienced horror on Thursday, March 28, 2024. The young Ekosso, a student in Form 4, A (class leader), succumbed after being stabbed by his classmate.

The class leader being the one who holds the attendance sheets and sometimes takes attendance, especially during free periods; the attacker therefore believed that his victim was responsible for his fate before deciding to confront him. Hence, the knife attack that led to the death of the class leader in question on March 28, 2024, around 2 p.m.,” reports the local news page Actualité de l’Est.

According to our information, the incident took place yesterday, Thursday, March 28, 2024, in the school courtyard. The murderer fled after the crime, while the victim, taken to a hospital facility, succumbed to his injuries around 2 p.m. A scene that reflects the level of barbarism and insecurity that exists in some schools in Cameroon and calls for the intervention of authorities.

But it is not only within the school premises that the security situation is alarming. Even in cities, households, and workplaces, the security situation has worsened. Just last Wednesday, a motorcycle taxi driver killed his passenger with a knife in Kribi. According to witnesses, “Nzié Jean Claude Ruphin died after receiving three knife wounds on Wednesday evening around 7:30 p.m. The fatal injuries were inflicted by the motorcycle driver who was taking him back home from work. It is reported that Jean Claude stopped a motorcycle in the city center to go home to the Dombè neighborhood, entrance Koumba, and then told the mototaxi driver that he had 200f on 500f. Just a few meters from his home, the motorcycle driver said he could not continue, believing he had reached the destination. Despite being tired, Jean Claude handed him 500f, but the motorcycle driver said he didn’t have change, sparking a heated argument between the two. A young lady (the neighbor) who was returning from the city and heard about the issue, gave 200f to the motorcycle driver to stop the quarrel. Despite this, the two continued to argue until it escalated into a fight.

According to testimonies, the motorcycle driver pulled out a knife, attacked Jean Claude, and stabbed him three times in front of a helpless crowd before fleeing.
