The Ministry of Public Works announced on Monday, March 11th, the beginning of construction work on the section from Bafang to Nkondjock. This decision will put an end to the years of suffering for the populations in this area.
The contract for this project has been awarded to the company CETP SARL. They will have the daunting task of constructing this road, which has been completely isolated for several decades. The section is 53.3 km long, and the estimated duration of the construction work is 36 months, with 12 months allocated for each of the three phases. The funding for this project will come from the budget of the Ministry of Public Works and the road fund for the fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025. CETP SARL will be responsible for asphalting steep slopes, stabilizing embankments at landslide and flooding zones, as well as providing regular maintenance and periodic stabilization of the remaining earth sections of the road.
This is not the first time that construction work has been announced for this section. On September 20, 2023, Minister Emmanuel Ngannou Djoumessi instructed the consortium of companies responsible for the project to quickly take charge of the project during a mobilization meeting. He also requested the rigorous development of the execution plan, which will determine the quality of the work to be carried out. The previous construction work had been awarded to the consortium HAB/ZAB Construction specifically for the rehabilitation of 13.5 km, involving the treatment of steep slopes, stabilization of embankments at landslide and flooding zones. The project also included regular maintenance and periodic stabilization of the remaining earth sections on the Bafang-Nkondjock section spanning the Littoral and West regions. The scope of work for the consortium included setting up and replicating construction sites, earthworks and road construction, sanitation and drainage, bridge construction, signage and equipment, among others. The project was funded by the MINTP Budget, Road Fund line for a total of 4,998,086,238 CFA francs. The technical oversight of the construction work was to be provided by the consortium of Engineering Consulting/Arsuk SARL, with construction originally scheduled to begin in October 2023.
Ultimately, it will be up to CETP SARL to successfully carry out this project, under the technical oversight of the consortium of Engineering Consulting/Arsuk SARL. This is good news for the population.
